daylight savings time - daylight saving timeDaylight Savings Time or DST, as it is commonly known, promotes the idea of taking advantage of the extra daylight available during the summer months. Let's take a look at how we can now add more 'day' to our days.daylight savings - daylight savingDaylight Savings Time in the Ancient Civilizations Did you know that DST was actually more useful use in ancient civilizations than it is today? In most parts of the world, ancient civilization used DST in a much more flexible manner than we do today. The people of yore regarded the sun as the supreme power and worshipped it so much that sunrise and sunset were both considered to be important aspects of daily life. They adjusted all their daily schedules according to the movements of the sun. The simple formula that they followed was to divide the available daylight into twelve equal hours without actually bothering about the length of the day. This provided daylight savings in the form of longer daylight hours every summer.William Willet Who? William Willet, a famous English builder, was the first person to put forward the concept of Daylight Saving Time. Being a horse rider and a golfer, Willet disliked going for shorter rides in the evenings and pondered about how he could get more time during the day. In 1905, William Willet hit upon the idea of DST. He proposed that if the clocks were advanced in the summer months, longer days could become possible. In 1907, he applied practice to theory by putting the clocks ahead in such a manner that there was more daylight in the afternoons and less in the mornings. The beginning of spring meant that clocks would be adjusted forward one hour and autumn brought them back to the original time.Daylight Savings Time Humour Benjamin Franklin is known for his quote "Early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise". Franklin had had worked as an American envoy to France and he observed that Parisians save on candles by rising early. His remark made the French government revise taxes on shutters, candles and the government even resorted to waking up the public by ringing church bells and firing cannons quite early in the morning. Talk about a morning revolution! What Makes Daylight Savings Time Popular? Firstly, daylight savings equals additional daylight for people involved in activities that require sunlight after working hours. Secondly and more importantly, there are fewer traffic casualties in conforming to daylight saving time. Another important use of daylight savings time is its use as fire safety reminders. The World's Who's Who List for DST It's surprising that Germany and its allies, and not Britain, first started using Willett's idea of daylight saving time in 1916 during World War I. However, Britain soon accepted daylight saving along with its allies and this acceptance was followed by several other European countries. Another year went by before Russia adopted daylight savings and they were soon followed by the United States in 1918. Many other countries across the world have also taken up the idea albeit readjusting it slightly to suit their own requirements.2008 daylight savings time - 2008 daylight saving time - 2008 daylight savingsIn 2008, Daylight Savings Time will start at the beginning of March and go to the beginning of November.2008 daylight savings time datesDaylight Savings Time starts on March 9, 2008 and ends on November 2, 2008.2008 daylight savings change | when does daylight savings time start2008 daylight savings time changechange to daylight savings time, daylight savings time change, change in daylight savings time, when does daylight savings time change, daylight saving time change, time change daylight savings, time change daylight savings time, when is daylight savings changewhen is daylight savings time - when is daylight savingswhen is daylight saving timeDaylight Savings Time starts on March 9, 2008 and ends on November 2, 2008.when does daylight savings time startwhen does daylight savings time 2008 startwhen does daylight savings time begin - daylight savings time beginsdaylight savings time dates - daylight saving time dateshistory of daylight saving time/origin of daylight saving timefacts about daylight savings timedaylight savings 2008 australiadaylight saving in australia and nzdaylight saving australiadaylight saving south australia - daylight saving and dates in south australiadaylight saving perth western australiawestern australia daylight savingdaylight savings time canadadaylight savings time ukdaylight saving time iraqdaylight saving time smxThe Daylight Saving Time SMX is the FAA ID code for California.
