Victoria Day
Canada
Canada celebrates the last Monday before May 24 as Victoria Day in honor to Queen Victoria. It is also a holiday in the Cayman Islands.
On May 24, 1854, residents in the Canadian city of Toronto gathered to salute Queen Victoria. Over the years, the date was changed as the monarch changed. From 1953, the date was renamed to Commonwealth Day but then in 1977, it was changed back to Victoria Day when Commonwealth Day was moved to March.
Victoria, British Columbia, celebrates the day with fireworks display.
